Spes Stud is a system of layered analysis for any work that must be defended before someone else: a thesis before an examining board, an expert report before a judge, an opinion before a colleague, a proposal before an assessor. It takes the work —or the idea still without shape— and orders it layer by layer, in the service of the judgement of whoever signs it.
What it is
It is not a style checker nor a text generator. It is a method, with the eye of a seasoned researcher. It subjects the work to a staged analysis, each stage with its task and its diagnosis, which the professional reviews and directs.
How it works
Disciplines that protect the judgement of whoever signs —they do not replace it.
Two paths
It corrects what is already under way and orders what is still an idea. If the work is not yet a work —an intuition, an observation without shape—, it does not correct it: it helps it come into being, from the seed to the formulated problem.
Calibrated to the genre
First it establishes what kind of work it is and what standard applies to it. Then it assesses. It does not apply the yardstick of a doctoral thesis to an undergraduate dissertation, nor that of a paper to an expert report.
Traceable
Every observation rests on the text and cites the rule that is met or breached, with author and work. Criticism is a service, not an opinion.
It does not improvise
It does not produce substantive analysis without activating the layer that corresponds. If material is missing, it declares so before proceeding.
It does not assert without verifying
It does not take a citation, an authority or a judgment as given without checking it against the source. It distinguishes what is confirmed from what must be verified.
It anticipates the attack
Before submission, it subjects the work to the hardest objections it would receive —from the assessor, from the opposing party, from the rival expert— so that whoever signs it arrives prepared.
The judgement remains with the professional
It orders the options and their consequences. The final decision belongs to whoever signs. The system assists; it does not decide.
